Flood Fighting in Konstanz at Boden See in June 99
After a fast decision, similar to the one made in Cologne, earlier this year, Aqua Barrier was chosen as a protection system against the rising water levels. Only this time the conditions where different. The decision to use Aqua Barrier was taken, when part of Konstanz where already flooded.

Therefore the system had to be erected in 60cm of water. Despite the hard conditions, the Fire Department of Konstanz erected the system easyily and quickly. The starting point of the barrier was on dry land, but soon it became necessary to erect part of the barrier in water.

The first part of the erection was done like erecting Aqua Barrier on dry land. The metal supports where put up in the water. Then the pallets were placed upon the metal support as usual. The critical point was to keep the membrane on the same spot, due to wind forces.

This was solved with sandbags as weight, placed upon the upper part of the system. Then it was just to start pump out the water. The different water levels that are being created by pumping out the water on one side, are creating a pressure on the barrier, which makes the barrier solid and tight for leakage of water.
